WHAT WE DO

[Why NFP?][Clinical Services][Education Programs][NFP in Practice]

Education Programs

Throughout Australia almost 60,000 people annually attend NFP courses, accessed principally through:

Schools – where school teachers increasingly are an intergrated approach to the physiological, sociological, psychological , marriage and family values aspect of sexuality education. NFP teachers integrate biological facts with a system of personal and interpersonal values, values which respect the primacy of the human dignity.

NFP educational programs enable students to not only be informed about their sexual options, but to be able to critically evaluate, and fully appreciate the human dimension in the area of sexuality.

Marriage Education Programs – have traditionally provided an introduction to family planning, have traditionally provided an introduction to family planning as an aspect of marriage, considering this intimate issue within a couple’s overall relationship.

Community & Other Groups – where a specific approach is often adopted, such as ante and postnatal groups and health professionals.

Increased professional awareness of natural options in family formation:

  • enable General Practitioners and other health professionals to respond to those health care consumers seeking ‘natural’ alternatives in sexual and reproductive health;
  • enables General Practitioners to provide a more comprehensive range of family planning options to the community;
  • contributes to a more informed decision by those choosing an effective method of family planning;
  • provides a clinical option when there are contraindications to interventionist therapies;
  • enables NFP centres to work in partnership with those General and Specialist Practitioners in the area of sub-fertility; and,
  • strengthen links with NFP centres in order to better meet the sexual and reproductive health needs of the community.
