HOW
NFP WORKS
- NFP educators are trained in either the Billings Ovulation
Method (BOM), or the Symptothermal Method of natural family planning. BOM is
taught by the Ovulation Method Research and Reference Centre of Australia Ltd
(OMR&RCA) and utilises clinical observations to detect changes in the
physiology of cervical mucus. These changes are indicative of the beginnings of the
fertile phase of the cycle, and of ovulation, and can be easily identified.
- The Australian Council of Natural Family Planning Inc
(ACNFP) teachers the Symptothermal Method, which uses the combined data of
multiple indicators basal body temperature, the presence and quality of cervical
mucus, and calendar calculations.
- The two Professional NFP Teacher Associations share a common
philosophical view of NFP, but each Association promulgates an independent pedagogy. To
maintain the integrity of each method, each Professional Teaching Association is
responsible for the recruitment, training and currency of accreditation levels of the NFP
educators trained in its specific NFP method.
- NFP educators undertake a comprehensive training program in
one of these two educative NFP methodologies currently available in Australia. But it is
not enough for our educators to become qualified to teach NFP. In order for us to maintain
the highest possible professional standards, our educators undertake an ongoing process of
reaccreditation. We are rightly proud of our teaching competencies, which are underwritten
by indemnity insurance, the only one of its kind in the world. And you can be assured of
the same high quality care from all our NFP educators in all our NFP centres.
